On 06 March 2012, the Action Network Human Rights-Philippines (AMP) organized a side event during the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council entitled “Human Rights Defenders Against Impunity in the Philippines”. The event, which was conducted in close cooperation with Amnesty International and International Fransciscans informed more than 60 participants about the current human rights situation in the Philippines. Human rights defenders from the Philippines highlighted the weaknesses in the judiciary and the security sector and formulated recommendations to the Philippine government with a view to the examination of the country during the subsequent Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in May 2012.
