At a time when the Philippines commemorates the declaration of martial law 50 years ago on September 21, 2022, by former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the Aktionsbündnis Menschenrechte-Philippinen (AMP) publishes its fourth human rights report.
The AMP report highlights the human rights violations in the Philippines and lists at least 85 extrajudicial killings of human rights defenders and journalists between August 19, 2019, and May 31, 2022. It also outlines cases of enforced disappearances and criminalization of HRDs. The report draws attention to the fact that the developments in the past years have emphasized the urgency for the Philippine government to take immediate and firm actions to hold perpetrations of human rights violations accountable.
AMP calls on the Marcos administration to take a strong stance on human rights, to acknowledge victims of human rights violations, end impunity, and uphold the rule of law.
