On March 20, 2012, the AMP expressed in a letter of appeal to the former Department of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima its utmost concern about the killing of human rights defender Jimmy Liguyon, who was shot dead outside his home in Barangay Dao, reportedly by a leader of a paramilitary group, trained by the police. The AMP called on the Philippine government to initiate an immediate, impartial, and thorough investigation into the killing of Jimmy Liguyon.
On April 27, 2012, the AMP received a response letter from the Headquarters of the Philippine National Police Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, providing an update on the investigation.
On July 19, 2012, the AMP sent another letter of appeal to the former chief of the National Philippine Police (PNP) Nicanor Bartolome to inquire on the investigation procedure to locate the whereabouts of the known perpetrator of the killing of Jimmy Liguyon.
On March 14, 2013, the AMP sent again a letter of appeal to the former President Benigno Aquino, calling on the Philippine government to direct the PNP to do its duty and enforce the warrant of arrest against the perpetrator.
