The proceedings of the conference “Human Rights in the Philippines – Trends and Challenges under the Aquino Government” from 29 to 30 June 2011 in Berlin illustrates contributions by renowned human rights defenders, which reveal the manifold and interdependent weaknesses in the political culture, the legislature, the judiciary and the executive, which stand in the way of a visible improvement of the human rights situation. German and European decision-makers as well as Filipino representatives took part in the critical discussion. The conference documentation also summarises the exciting discourses on assessments, approaches to action and international possibilities for intervention and support. Political recommendations are summarised at the end of the documentation in Chapter 9 (p. 75).
