Trumped-up charges against Roy Velez and Amelita Bravante
Urban poor and trade union leaders Roy Velez and Amelita Bravante were arrested on December 3, 2012. The activists were charged with the murder of soldiers and civilians in Ifugao and Camarines Norte. The Action Network Human Rights-Philippines (ANHRP) expresses concern about the increase and systematic filing of trumped-up charges against activists in an attempt to silence them. The ANHRP appeals to Justice Secretary De Lima to ensure the speedy resolution of the pending motion, a review of the charges and an end to trumped-up charges as means of political persecution.
