On 7th December President Duterte said in his weekly address that during the rest of his term there will be no more truce with the communist rebels. Traditionally, both sides would agree on a ceasefire during the holiday season. Duterte says, the ceasefire died when he decided to walk away from the peacetalks. The peace talks have been stalled for a long time now and Duterte has not expressed any intention of resuming them.
The government and the rebels have accused each other of violating the terms of the last ceasefire in April. Therefore the AFP has recommended Duterte not to agree on a ceasefire during the holiday season. This once again proves Dutertes increasingly hostile position towards the rebels or anyone who is against him for that matter.
