Sarah Elago, the youngest member of the Filipino Congress ever has been subject of numerous diffamation attacks during all of 2020. She has been red-tagged with the use of manipulated photographs in the social networks so she nowadays gets nervous if anybody is asking to take her picture. All year long she has been one of the most targeted people by propaganda networks who aimed at discrediting her with false pictures and quotes.
Elago has been active against disinformation since she entered congress in 2016 – which also increased the campaigns against her. What was new in 2020 is that the attacks against her became more and more sexist and misogynistic. She states that this kind of violence will keep many women from going into politics.
