Amnesty International UK issues report on human rights situation

Amnesty International UK has issued a report urging the UK government to take more measures for human rights defenders worldwide. The report focuses especially on the situation in the Philippines, Afghanistan, Columbia, Egypt, Libya, Russia and Zimbabwe. In regards to the Philippines the report particularly condemns the prevalent culture of impunity in regards to extrajudicial killings.

Human rights defenders face constant and multifaceted threats, intimidation and attacks, the latter include harassment, false charges, and imprisonment“, Amnesty International stated. They added: “Killings are also a regular occurrence. All 10 interviewees have experienced attacks, threats, smear campaigns, and death threats because of their work“.
