The organization Human Rights Watch then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmanetwork.com\/news\/topstories\/content\/906225\/marcos-should-endorse-sc-decision-vs-red-tagging-human-rights-watch\/story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to publicly endorse this decision and take the necessary measures.<\/p>\n<p>However, Marcos Jr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/philippines\/marcos-rejects-call-abolish-ntf-elcac-denies-history-red-tagging-may-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declared<\/a> on May 16, 2024, that there was no need for action following the said SC-decision, such as the dissolution of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). The NTF-ELCAC is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/philippines\/marcos-rejects-call-abolish-ntf-elcac-denies-history-red-tagging-may-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">known<\/a> for its &#8220;red-tagging&#8221; attacks against activists. Disbanding the NTF-ELCAC would also mean the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/philippines\/marcos-rejects-call-abolish-ntf-elcac-denies-history-red-tagging-may-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abolishment<\/a> of Executive Order 70 of 2018 on combatting the communist insurgency, on the basis of which the NTF-ELCAC was formed.<\/p>\n<p>Ephraim Cortez, Secretary General of the National Union of Peoples&#8217; Lawyers (NUPL), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/philippines\/rappler-talk\/interview-ephraim-cortez-how-does-supreme-court-red-tagging-ruling-change-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emphasized<\/a> in an interview that the recent SC-decision is crucial to prevent future &#8220;red-tagging&#8221; activities.
