The CHR recommendation came after UN-Special Rapporteur <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.ngo\/en\/un-special-rapporteur-khan-freedom-of-opinion-and-press-in-philippines-critical\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Irene Khan<\/span><\/a> called for the abolition of the Task Force on February 2, 2024. Khan argued that the NTF-ELCAC was <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.ngo\/en\/un-special-rapporteur-khan-freedom-of-opinion-and-press-in-philippines-critical\/\"><span class=\"s2\">outdated<\/span><\/a> and did not take into account the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.ngo\/en\/resumption-of-the-peace-talks-with-ndfp\/\"><span class=\"s2\">peace negotiations<\/span><\/a> with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The CHR <a href=\"https:\/\/newsinfo.inquirer.net\/1903105\/fwd-chr-on-echoing-un-special-rapporteur-stand-ntf-elcac-must-review-assess-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">emphasized<\/span><\/a> the importance of upholding human rights standards and offered to support the NTF-ELCAC in fulfilling its mandate through training and policy advice. The Commission also announced that it would conduct <a href=\"https:\/\/newsinfo.inquirer.net\/1903105\/fwd-chr-on-echoing-un-special-rapporteur-stand-ntf-elcac-must-review-assess-mandate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">investigations<\/span><\/a> into so-called &#8220;red-tagging&#8221; (i.e., branding individuals or organizations as &#8220;terrorist\u201d).
