The executive director of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) Secretariat, Emmanuel Salamat, also thinks that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manilatimes.net\/2022\/12\/19\/news\/jomas-death-opens-window-for-peace\/1870901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new chapter<\/a> is ahead with regards to the peace negotiations with the communist insurgency. The Department of National Defense called Sison the &#8220;biggest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/nation\/reactions-statements-joma-sison-death-december-17-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stumbling block<\/a> to peace in the Philippines.&#8221; President Ferdinand Marcos has already directed the military to focus on supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/newsinfo.inquirer.net\/1715905\/marcos-wants-military-to-refocus-on-supporting-peace-process-says-galvez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peace process<\/a> to end armed conflict in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Sison&#8217;s death came 10 days before the party&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/mb.com.ph\/2022\/12\/26\/afp-says-suffering-from-communist-rebellion-must-end-now-as-cpp-celebrates-54th-anniversary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">54th anniversary<\/a> on December 26, 2022.
