Among the arrested people were several small-scale farmers, land reform advocates, journalists, students and artists. Initially they were charged with illegal assembly and malicious mischief; later they faced charges for disobedience and resistance to authority as well as obstruction of justice, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201cTinang83\u201d remained imprisoned until they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/2022\/06\/16\/forty-five-artists-arrested-following-land-protests-in-philippines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bailed out<\/a> on June 12, 2022. Two of seven trumped-up charges were then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altermidya.net\/farmers-groups-lawyers-laud-dismissal-of-2-charges-against-tinang-83\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">junked<\/a> by a court in Tarlac; the group is still facing the other <a href=\"https:\/\/kodao.org\/land-rights-champions-face-more-charges-from-tarlac-prosecutors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charges<\/a>. The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/nation\/department-agrarian-reform-reaffirms-farmers-owners-hectares-hacienda-tinang-tarlac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affirmed<\/a> on June 20, 2022, that the two-million square meter agrarian reform land block in Hacienda Tinang rightfully belonged to 178 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs); 94 of them are MAKISAMA members, who are part of the Tinang83, and should receive in total 758,000 square meters or over 8,000 square meters each. A week later, a judge at Capas court also noted that the Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs) in the possession of the ARBs are \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/nation\/tinang-farmers-cleared-illegal-assembly-malicious-mischief-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sufficient proof<\/a> to entitle the holders the right to possess the lands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Tinang83 group filed a month after the incident <a href=\"https:\/\/newsinfo.inquirer.net\/1635246\/tarlac-cops-face-raps-over-tinang-83-arrest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complaints<\/a> against Lt. Col. Reynold Macabitas, chief of Concepcion police. The farmers association Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bulatlat.com\/2022\/07\/27\/tinang-farmers-supporters-file-torture-other-charges-against-tarlac-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UMA<\/a>) asserted that at least 30 policemen from Concepcion town, who participated in the mass arrest, are now facing multiple complaints.<\/p>\n<p>The land was formerly controlled by the Tinang SN. Multi-purpose Cooperative Inc. under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rappler.com\/newsbreak\/in-depth\/win-win-solution-halves-makisama-tinang-share-agrarian-reform-land\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Villanueva<\/a> family, who filed a petition, seeking to nullify and stop the land distribution process under DAR.
