Petitions against this decision have been qualified as &#8220;moot&#8221; and been dismissed. Salvador Panelo, presidential spokesperson said: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnation.inquirer.net\/194325\/fwd-icc-should-stop-meddling-with-phs-internal-affairs-panelo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines, nor any of its state officials<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amp.ngo\/en\/project\/human-rights-in-the-philippines-under-duterte\/\">In February 2018, the ICC&#8217;s chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, announced the opening of a preliminary investigation of the killings by police in the context of the so-called war on drugs<\/a>. On March 17, 2019, Duterte declared the Philippine&#8217;s withdrawal from the ICC.<\/p>\n<p>After petitions against this move have been dismissed, the government asked the ICC to stop the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.abs-cbn.com\/news\/03\/18\/21\/palace-asks-icc-stop-probe-into-duterte-drug-war\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigations about human rights violations once and for all<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines stands by its decision to withdraw from the ICC.
